Auctions have the means of shaking up collectors nerves. In the following months, auctions presenting exceptional lots such as a collection of 114 Romanée Conti bottles are going to be on the market!

Sotheby’s is organizing an auction in Hong Kong on the 4th of October of this year, in which this fabulous lot of 114 bottles of Romanée Conti, as well as a private collection of Gran Crus, from Netscape’s founder, Jim Clark, containing a lot of Henri Jayer magnums.
This auction should move the great collectors and Burgundy amateurs in all of Asia. Of the 778 lots proposed, 40% will be represented by Burgundies, weighing for more than 70% of the total value, that’s estimated at in between 4,5 and 6,7 million dollars.

A lot of 114 bottles of Romanée Conti is a unique event, probably in one’s lifetime. This auction should leave it’s mark for years to come.

Acker, Merall Condit’s are organizing an auction in New York on the 6th of September. Again, Bordeaux and Burgundy Grand crus, will have collectors drooling. Such as a vertical of Châteu Lafite, or a lot of 5 “millésimes” from DRC Richebourg, from 1990 and 2006.

Fine and rare wine auctions, are continuously growing, reaching more amateurs and collectors from all over the world.

Where can one find « the Holy Grail » of wines in the world? Which is the wine by which, just the name is what dreams are made off? Which is the one with the most beautiful color, constituted by ever-changing shades and reflections all along its maturation process? Which is the one harboring a perfect limpidity and a total absence of turbidity? Which is the one that has the best brilliance? Which is the one whose bouquet offers the most awesome olfactory sense, combining the aroma of grapes to the secondary bouquet coming from fermentation and the tertiary bouquet emanating from its maturation. Which is the one where the attack is unctuous, flattering, powerful, and hard at the same time, where the matter is intense or light and where its freshness brings a balance, whether it be soft, supple, fair, firm or asserted and is pleasant to the mouth with a long aromatic persistence? Which is the one that by its depth and exceptional complexity takes and transports you into a dream that will leave an unforgettable reminiscence?

This Grail is to be found in Burgundy.

Should there be only one, it would be the sublime and mythical red wine “Richebourg Grand Cru, Côtes de nuits”, from Henri Jayer. An extremely scarce wine, considered as the best in the world and where the vintage is not important, Henri Jayers’ wine stands out from the rest. But excellence has a price, the Holy Grail is at 12000€. Out of reach for the majority of Grand Crus amateurs, for whom the search for the Grail will last a lifetime, and perhaps more.

Therefore we could consider a Grail for each and everyone, with regards to our budget, the year, the terroir, or the…No, the Holy Grail is unique and even if we never have the luck of dipping our lips in it, we know it is there and it’s French

Thank you, Monsieur Henri Jayer.

Pinot Noir is the major red grape variety of the Burgundy region, it is very popular in France but also in Switzerland and it is the main grape in red wines. It is Philippe le Hardi, Duke of Burgundy, who imposed the culture of pinot noir. It is found in the Champagne, Loire Valley, Jura, Savoie, Alsace and of course Burgundy regions.
The choice of the pinot noir is due to its aromatic qualities but it’s also a problematic grape. His early budding makes it sensitive to frost, so it is mainly planted on hillsides with calcareous soils in temperate climates.
This is an early maturing variety whereby its quality, results in a relatively low yield, it offers red wines with a beautiful color and is extremely aromatic; ageing very well and may be kept for periods extending over various decades. Pinot Noir has a low concentration of sugars and alcohol and its tannins are especially silky.
The Romanée-Conti vineyard is planted exclusively with Pinot Noir, as well as the Henri Jayer and Liger Belair domains, as well as many of the best Burgundy properties.
It is also the only red grape permitted in Alsace, and is now found in Oregon, Australia and New Zealand.
This delicate variety, exuding fruity aromas will seduce you when you sniff your glass, you will find the scent of berries and also detect the perfume of mushrooms, moss and for some of the great wines, notes of violets and roses … Enjoy!

The Burgundy vineyards produce 8 of the 10 best Grands Crus in the world, and in this exclusive group there is an extraordinary wine from Mosel Germany and one from the Bordeaux vineyards.

After a very serious study issued from a comparison of 30,000 worldwide merchants sites, the first ranking is not the Domaine de la Romanée Conti, but the wine of Henri Jayer a Richebourg Grand Cru rouge côtes de nuits, Pinot Black. The second is the Domaine Romanée Conti with a Romanée Conti also a Grand Cru Rouge Côte de Nuits Pinot Black . Back to Henri Jayer for the third place, with a Vosne Romanée Cros Parantoux a red first Cru of the Côte de Nuits and always still Pinot Black . How and why are these wines are so different? Because they are legendary wines , the most complex and the most refined in the world. They are the fruit of a great winemaker and, or, a great domaine . These are rare wines, which are increasingly scarce over time. Richebourg has a surface of 8.03 hectares and Romanée 0.85 hectares , therefore they are not comparable to the super productions of thousands of hectares in other wine regions. Burgundy is a vineyard of “gardens” worked with passion and closer to men because of its deliberately limited space . In addition , these wines are capable of successful aging despite a delicate and precious grape, as the Pinot Noir . Following with the ranking :

4. Domaine Leflaive Montrachet Grand Cru, Côte de Beaune

5. Egon Muller Scharzhof Scharzhofberger Trockenbeerenauslese Riesling , Mosel , Germany

6 . Domaine de la Romanée Conti Montrachet Grand Cru, Côte de Beaune

7 . Domaine Georges Roumier Musigny Grand Cru Côtes de Nuits

8. Georges and Henri Jayer Echezeaux Grand Cru, Côte de Nuits

9. Domaine Leroy Musigny Grand Cru , Cote de Nuits

10. Petrus , Pomerol , Bordeaux

These wines are unique, extraordinary and without equivalent , reflecting the work of passionate winemakers and in love with their vineyard.
